Jayne Cronlund 
Executive Director

Jayne was the first employee hired by Three Rivers in 1997.  She is a licensed attorney in Oregon.  She enjoys hiking through the many beautiful forested areas where she lives in Southwest Portland with her husband Pat, daughter Rose, and dog Maggie. 

Sharon Wood
Deputy Director

Sharon comes to Three Rivers with more than ten years of non-profit management experience.  Most recently she was employed as the Executive Director for Willamette Valley Development Officers in Portland.  Prior to that she was a fundraiser for The Tualatin Hills Parks Foundation.  Sharon has a Bachelor's Degree from the University of New Hampshire and an MBA from Auburn University.  Sharon is an East Coast transplant, who has resided in the Portland area for the past ten years.  She enjoys outdoor activities, reading, and spending time with her family and friends. 

Barbara Bernstein
Development Director

Barbara comes to us most recently from AFS-USA where she served as Western States Regional Director serving 500 foreign exchange students, 400 American students going abroad and hundreds of volunteers. Nearly 20 years of working in non-profits has been a source of inspiration to her as she has been privileged to work with many outstanding volunteers and dedicated staff. She is a graduate of the University of Oregon and has recently returned to Oregon from Tucson, AZ. She now lives with her husband, Richard, and their three cats (Erin, Tazio and Cara) and their supernaturally adorable Australian Shepherd, Mr. Freckle’s.


Virginia Bowers
Conservation Director

Virginia has a Master's degree in Planning from University of Massachusetts, Amherst and a BA in Environmental Studies from Trinity College. She has worked as a land use planner for City of Tualatin and Multnomah County and as a park planner for the Tualatin Parks Department.  She completed the first Conservation Strategies Plan for Three Rivers in 2002 as a consultant and joined the staff in 2004.  She loves to ski, bike, hike, travel and be with her family.

Laura O'Leary
Stewardship Director

Laura comes to Three Rivers with nearly a decade of diverse conservation and natural resource management experience. She holds a Master of Science degree in Rangeland Ecology from Colorado State University, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Conservation and Resource Studies from the University of California at Berkeley. In her spare time she enjoys hiking, gardening and traveling.

Amanda Wilson
Volunteer Coordinator

Amanda moved to Portland from Missouri where she received her BS in Biology from Missouri State University. Her studies included conducting research at Arizona State University on stream nutrients, at the University of Kansas on monarch migration, and exploring the Rockies in a big, white van with her mountain ecology field class. After graduation, she became the AmeriCorps Community Stewardship Coordinator for two years with a local watershed group. In her free time she enjoys thrift store shopping, reading, gardening, swimming, and hiking.

Gaylen Beatty
Director, Backyard Habitat Program

Gaylen has worked in the non-profit environmental field for over fifteen years. Focusing primarily on environmental education, she brings a passion for the outdoors and working with the public in conservation practices. After getting her BS in Oceanography at Humboldt State University in the early nineties, she just finished receiving her Masters in Science Education from Portland State University. In addition to loving her work at Three Rivers, she also balances home life with husband and two beautiful girls to help remind her how important nature close to home is for us all in the urban landscape.

Kim Brown
Development Associate

Nell Kolden
AmeriCorps Restoration Coordinator

Nell comes to Three Rivers with a degree in Environmental Studies and Biology from UC Santa Cruz. Her studies were focused on botany and restoration ecology, and after graduation she took a job with the Bureau of Land Management in Salem, OR. A Seattle native, she was glad to be back in the Pacific Northwest amongst the mossy doug firs. She moved to Portland this past summer and is a recent addition to the stewardship department at Three Rivers. When she’s not at work, Nell enjoys rock climbing, Nordic skiing, biking, and anything else outdoors.
