Volunteers and Supporters Recognized at Conservation Celebration

Document Actions

On February 21st, 100 people gathered to celebrate Three Rivers’ 2007 accomplishments at the City of Lake Oswego’s West End Building. The Native American Youth Association brought ten youth dancers to entertain the audience. Many volunteers were thanked at the event including landowners: Ron and Carole Andresen, Marianne Nelson, Kim Phillips, Bob and Leslie Abbott, Eddie Lincoln on behalf of Project Enterprise, and the hundreds of others for the over 5,000 volunteer hours contributed to Three Rivers.

Great food was donated by Lamb’s Palisades, Market of Choice, Traders Joe’s and Grand Central Baking.

Marianne Nelson, a special volunteer recognized that evening said, “Thanks for the recognition.  I felt included in the evening and connected to the mission especially the Native American handshake at the end.”

Audience members were asked to write down their wishes for a health planet.  Here is what people wrote:

-        I wish everyone will pull ivy once a month, and eat organic food.

-        I wish to stop the extinction of animal species.

-        Education about the importance of sustainable living, renewable energy and community involvement in creating opportunities and assistance for people in poverty.

-        I believe in the power of community to transcend our current challenges.

-        It is this power that I wish for the earth.

-        Extend bike and pedestrian paths on Rosemont and Childs Roads.

-        Clean air for all life forms, balanced food chains, clean water for all, achieved through educated thoughtful, considerate human actions.

-        That all plastic bags around the world would be eliminated.

-        We need to keep trees and green spaces.

-        I wish sustainable building, recycling and energy conservation could be common practice, not an ideal that can only be implemented by the wealthy or truly caring people.

-        These things should be the standard.

-        Pull more ivy, drive less cars.

-        I want to be able to see the stars and have my grandchildren see them too – so stop light pollution (along with efforts to preserve the ozone layer).

-        Human beings understanding that they are dependent and interdependent with healthy world environment.

-        Leave no child indoors.

-        An end to all war.

-        Clean water and natural systems for all living creatures.

-        That we will learn to love ourselves and respect others, that way we will care about our surroundings our clean air and water and our health and quality of life.
