Focal Habitats

Three Rivers is also interested in conserving lands outside our focus areas that protect our focal habitat, Oregon White Oak Woodlands.

Historically, Oak woodlands were found throughout the Willamette Valley.  Now, much of that habitat has disappeared.  Oak woodlands provide a unique habitat for a number of at-risk and sensitive species, such as the acorn woodpecker, sharp-tailed snake and the red tree vole.  Oak woodlands are characterized by a canopy of Oregon white oak and a relatively open understory consisting of plants such as poison oak, California hazel, snowberry, oceanspray, serviceberry and sword fern.
